What's More Important? Saving Lives or Halloween - Scary Facts About Spending on this One Holiday Equivalent to Over 6% of Mental Health Budget for Entire Year
Hope Xchange Nonprofit Launches Facebook Event & Online Donation Website Page to Raise Awareness & Funds for Suicide Prevention Programs
As we count down to Halloween this year, Americans will spend close to $7 BILLLION dollars on one day. According to CNN.com, $6.9 BILLION was spent last year, with $74.34 the average amount a household spent on candy, costumes, and decorations. Yes, for ONE day, we will spend the equivalent of over SIX PERCENT of our country's mental health budget for the entire YEAR.
Hope Xchange is asking its supporters to make a pledge to spend $10 less this year on Halloween - on candy that will probably get tossed anyway - and donate that $10 to their suicide prevention programs. No person in this country should be a throw away.
Each & Every One of Us is Responsible for Suicide Prevention - If Not Us, Who?
While we're out celebrating Halloween this year, people are committing suicide: every 41 seconds someone takes their own life and every 42 seconds someone is left wondering why. How many lives could we save if we all spent just $10 less this year and donated that money to suicide prevention efforts? What's more important than saving lives? Halloween? To me personally, this is nuts.

Why Donate to Hope Xchange?
Simple: because we know how to save lives. We are doing it now by giving those struggling in our bipolar community renewed life purpose. With that said, ironically during September Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, we got slammed.
Last month, we published a blog post citing the scary suicide statistics, our founder shared her personal story on her own 3 suicide attempts, bipolar diagnosis and how these gave birth to Hope Xchange on NatashyTracy.com, and was the first guest in a new Suicide Prevention Podcast.
At the end of September, we launched an online donation page on our website using the secure FlipCause.com donation processing gateway. Bootstrapped by the founder's family and friends since inception in 2013, additional funds are now needed to not only find mentors but to also continue the development of two new innovative mental wellness programs, Hope Xchange Timebank and Holistic Hope, desperately needed in our communities to restore hope, renew life purpose and prevent suicide.
Donate Today to Save Lives
If you believe, as we do, that preventing over 42,000 Americans from taking their own life each year is everyone's responsibility and that it's simply nuts that we're spending the equivalent of over 6 percent of the mental health budget in this country to celebrate Halloween, please consider donating $10 that you would otherwise spend on candy, costumes, decorations and parties to our suicide prevention programs.
We cannot answer every cry for help, particularly those requesting a bipolar mentor. So that we can help more sufferers, we're now asking you for your help with our first social media online donation campaign. Make the pledge on our FACEBOOK EVENT or by simply donating on our website today by CLICKING HERE. If not you, who?
